BOOKS!! Calling all Readers…

Happy Sunday-Funday on this stormy Sunday afternoon, my dear friends!

I wanted to talk for a few minutes about books.  The title of this post may be a bit deceiving because while I love to read a real book, I don’t always have time.  So instead, I listen to audiobooks while I’m cooking, cleaning, driving, etc.  I LOVE using my Audible app for this because I can earn credits to download free books, and it’s not those lousy free books that no one wants to read, it’s for any book I want!

Currently I’m reading/listening to “The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah.

I just started it and am already having a hard time putting it down and doing my “mom duties”.  I think Kristin Hannah is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.  I’m not even done with this book (which was recommended by a friend via Facebook), and I highly recommend it to all of my readers!

If you’re looking for some Bonus Mom material to read, I highly recommend these next to books.  I loved them.

  • “But I’m Not A Wicked StepMother” by Kathi Lipp & Carol Boley
  •  “The Smart StepMom” by Ron L Deal & Laura Petherbridge

There were so many great ideas and stories that I could apply to my life and family.  Our family hasn’t been without challenges and I’m sure yours hasn’t either.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.  I even go back to them from time to time when I’m feeling like I’m in this Bonus Mom thing all alone.  I write notes in the margins and I’m sure before all of our kids are gone, these books will be worn out!

I decided to make a book reading challenge with my kids for the summer.  We recently moved to a new house with a pool, so I’ve made a “mean mom” rule that we all have to read for 30 minutes before there’s any pool time.  I want each of us (including me) to read 5 books before school starts back up in August.  I think that’s a challenging but an attainable goal.  I also have this book/movie rule where we’re required to read a book before we see the movie they made about it.  My son read “A Wrinkle In Time” this past school year, so naturally he wanted to see the movie.  Since my daughter hadn’t read it yet, I’m requiring her to read it before any of us see the movie.  Books are always better than the movie!  My kids love the library programs we have here in our small town so reading isn’t a punishment for them. We’re so lucky! Have any of you implemented anything similar in your homes?

I would love to hear from you!

  1. What book are you reading?
  2. What have you finished reading and enjoyed?
  3. What apps do you use for audiobooks and reading ebooks?
